I had planned on heading up and fishing the Caney under the full moon but headed to Old Hick instead. We had plain old fashioned tough bite. We saw no action until around midnight had some dinks and a few nice bites. Being a bluff man year round I decided to head up to one of my favorite sections to give it a try and BAM on the third cast! My old trusty 10.5" worm worked again. After a nice fight from a heavy fish I landed a 5 pound large. Then about 20 yards up from that some fish started schooling minnows and we came accross some real big fish eating them. At first it was big largemouth producing huge swrils all around us they seemed to move out and next were 20+ pound catfish mostly blues and mixed in was the random bowling ball dropping in the water that I imagine was striper. I can say I have never in all my years been in such close proximity to all that kind of action before. Literally within a 20 foot circle around us all this was going on. We threw everything and a tackle box or two at them. The only taker was something grabbed my uncles buzz bait and took it deep before coming back up and throwing it. I guess it was a big largemouth.
The night was fun absolutely no one on the water but us and yet aggravating at the same time. I would have loved to have seen just one of those schooling fish on a line.
