Winter Stocking
« on: November 12, 2008, 02:42:56 PM »
Does anyone know when the winter stocking begins on the Duck at Normandy?
Also, is there any reason to fish it before the stocking begins?

I don't know when the winter stocking program begins but it should be soon if previous year's stocking patterns are continued.  I fished it about a month ago and all I got was three small sardine size fish.   So, I would wait until it is stocked with RBs before trying it.

The Duck River water temps are down in the mid 50"s so I feel thay will begin stocking soon.  Stocking dates are not published for this part of the Duck but everytime I've observed a "Stocking" it took place on a Thursday towards the end of the month.  I'm sure they will stock before Thanksgiving.
They normaly do not stock the Duck or the Elk in January or Febuary.
I did have the odd chance to be sitting at Courtner's late last January when the truck pulled in (a Thursday afternoon).  I was asked if I knew they were coming!  And was told they had extra fish to get rid of and did not normaly stock then.

That schedule I posted is from TWRA and I have emailed for clarification.  It is a tentative schedule and that has to be noted.

The Duck was stocked today.  The first bridge, second bridge, Courtner's and Dement bridge.  3500 total trout.  This may be the only time until next March.

wm1;
Looks like they planted a lot of 6-9" fish!  Right now they are holding in the deep holes.  Lots of leaves in the water so most of the time when you set the hook you come up with one!  Water Temps were in the 60's   Hopefully the cold weather will keep the bait slingers away and give them a chance to spread out and grow up!
Did I say "Bait Slingers"?!  I may be politicaly incorrect and can only ask for forgiveness...Nah!!
