Spring is on the way
« on: March 11, 2009, 09:21:58 PM »
We have a magnolia bush at our house and it is blooming. Took these on Tuesday with the 80 degree weather to practice a little macro work.

Is that a magnolia  or is it a Tulip Tree, we have one just about like it at our house in full bloom

It's gonna freeze tonight. Did you use the beercan?

Yeah, I am glad I got the pics.  I used my Minolta 50mm macro. That lens is sweet. I really need to get a flash, I think the last two would have been better with more light fill.

Leo, mine is a Magnolia. My Mom wants to take some for her yard and I had done research last year and found them here: http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=7226273.

Soon our weeping Japanese Cherry will bud and bloom!

It's a magnolia - just not the tall southern magnolia of Gone With the Wind fame - commonly called a Tulip Magnolia - one of the shrubby deciduous kinds - along with the Star Magnolia.  I won't bore you with the botanical references.

The Tulip Tree of Tennessee fame is our state tree - Tulip Poplar or Yellow Poplar, or Tulip Tree.  It is distantly related to the Magnolias.
