It's happening in other areas of the state, but not right around my house.  I spent 4 hours on my stretch of river tonight and never saw a rise. I was stubborn and refused to fish a steamer or nymph. I got skunked.

The Mother's Day Caddis Hatch is one of those hatches that everybody around here really looks forward to.  We've had some blue wings, and midges, and some skwalas earlier, but this is usually about the time the better dry action gets started around here. Somebody needs to tell the bugs to bring it on.

Water temps still cool. Most nights still below freezing. Snowing on the mountain tonight, about 1000 feet higher than the house here by the river.  Good news for summer flows but I'm thinking it's got our caddis delayed a week or two.

Til then, more of the waiting game. Dangit!
Yesterday, I was at the bottom. I was at the bottom of a valley, in the river. Then my eyes hiked up the mountains to the snow capped peaks. I thought, "When I am at this lowest place I can be, standing in a river, everything is looking up."

nothing like a blanket of caddis on the water and a big toad on a foam line feeding.
