Had a great sunny weekend of high pressure and clear skies. It made the smallmouth fishing a little tough, but when the sun got low...the river came alive. In a late evening drift with my brother Jay, we got several fish to eat in the calm flat water, watching boils and wakes as the fish would suck in the fly in the surface glare.
It was a great time out:
Early Saturday, with my buddy, Todd.
Early Sunday, before daybreak on Boone with my buddy, Doug:
Late Sunday floating with my brother, Jay:
Saw this big guy wallowing in the shallows, and I just had to get a pose with him....Big Boy!
About 6:00 PM was the magic hour:
As we drifted past the last shoal, the sun fully set..it was an awesome setting. The large Orange moon came over the mountains, and set the clear sky glowing with light. We trolled to the take out, and caddis flies covered our faces and bodies, attracted by the headlamps.
Then came the Dobson Flies!!!
I had two of those Mongolian bird sized bugs land on me in the dark, and I felt like I was in an Indiana Jones movie. I'll take snakes and snapping turtles any day over those pincher mouthed beasts. Atleast now, I know where the hellagramites hatch.
