Your opinions please!
« on: November 23, 2006, 09:33:36 AM »
Thumper has been dying to go to the steamplant & wanting to take his Gheenoe.
On several occasions i have watched drift boats & a Gheenoe over there having a very difficult time on account of the a$$holes in larger boats running up/down the channel wide open.
I advised him against doing so cause i kind of like fishing with the guy & wouldn't want to put him in harms way, of course i don't think he thinks as much of me.
After all, he did tell me which direction to run the boat to catapult myself out of it ;D
What do ya'll think about running smaller craft on such a large body of water with irresponsible operators on it?

Bring a Piece and let there be peace. ;D  I did it all the time in my lowe with no problem.

Mike, the jons seem to have no problems, it's the narrower, longer boats such as the Gheenoe/Riverhawk that i've seen having a hard time. Yep, i'd like to see what the 45 ACP would do to one of those top ends on more than one occasion.
I'd be lowering myself to there standards though.

Thanks for asking the question Grumpy.  I also enjoy fish with you and want no harm to come of you as well.  A swimming lesson every now and then is ok! ;D
The situation currently with the Caney running so much water has me looking for other fishing waters.  Also thinking about the Cumberland.  If I want to haul more than one person in the boat my Gheenoe is a little small.  It's so bad I am looking at an additional boat. ???   A used wide 16' jon boat with prop ob.  I've wanted to fish the Steam Plant for years.  Hearing and reading the skip jack/hybrid stories and all. I don't want to risk my life, my partners life, boat or gear doing so.  I love my Gheenoe.  The freeboard is low.  It's easy to get in and out of for wade fishing.  It's light weight and very stable and good for one or two people to fish from standing in placid water.  I know the guys in Flordida use them in some rough conditions but not on purpose. :o  Mike,  I value you opinion.  Would you have taken your Riverhawk to the Steam Plant?
I think Grumpy sums it up well when he says "there is no one perfect boat".
Thanks guys!  Let me know what you think.

Yes I would have. Put in at greers ferry so you don't have to run from flippers to the steam plant. Then just get a feel for how the boat handles wake. I used my RH to fish the flats on Priest durring the summer when all the big wake boarders were out. I never felt like I was in any danger.

By the time I reached the Steam Plant I'd either be very experienced in my Gheenoe or dead from exhaustion. ;D  I though you liked me Mike.  Sorry iI didn't buy your Lowe. 8)

Hey Thumper.I finally got in touch with  Alan today and he already sold that boat. sort of made me sick because of the price he sold it for...$600 ( but that was without a trailer ).  He said he would keep his eyes open for one though...he is always running into deals on that kind of thing.

Thanks Leo.  As crazy as it sounds!  I think 2 boats, my Gheenoe and a used Jon would be cheaper than a new Supreme.
