Cumberland Plateau Slideshow.
« on: October 26, 2009, 09:12:46 PM »
Fishing sucked Sat but the Sunday drive with my youngest daughter was priceless. Fall color is getting fired up on the Plateau but still needs a few days to really peak. I'll be back! We spent the day wandering around the hills and surrounding towns. We stopped in the Appalachian Arts and Crafts center and the Stella Luna Art Gallery in Smithville, more on that in another thread.

Thanks everyone!
That area is Greeter falls and yes it is around Stone Door. Great place to spend the day when the fishing sucks. Something about seeing all that land and biodiversity that man hasn't shat on that puts things back into perspective for me. I could spend weeks wondering around up there and never get bored. I'd be starving but not bored. ;D

Hey Mike, I know that area. We used to go hiking down there and around the old homestead.

You know the Greeter main falls "lower part". There is a huge flat rock on an angle where the plunge pool goes back to a stream. The sunlight was peeking through the trees one day onto that rock and made a beautiful shot. Well I wanted to be a part of it so I crossed the stream and climbed half way up it. Boy was it slick. I started to slide and could do nothing about it until I went backwards off into the water. No change of clothes just had to air dry. The water was cold and way over my head there as I never came close to touching. Good thing it wasn't winter. Next time I will just let the picture take care of itself.

You are right. If anyone wants to see really pretty scenery and not have to back pack hours to get there I would suggest that place. Very easy to get in and out.

Very nice.  Looks like a place I need to take my Grandson some time soon.

Really nice pictures!  This year has been somewhat disappointing for colors around Crossville.  We haven't had as many of the really vivid colors like were in some of your shots...
