Skippy fishing
« on: January 10, 2010, 06:57:08 PM »
Went out skippy fishing today with little doubt the fish would be there depite what has been said on other boards over the past two weeks.  I shake my head sometimes thinking where are these people fishing or are they really fishing at all.  I have fished the steam plant a lot over the past three weeks and every time I am out there I have caught fish.  Some days are better then others and some flies work better then other, but over all fish have always been boated (multiple/scores).  I will say this, dont always trust the boards go out, brave the elements, be it wind, rain, or snow and see if the fish are biting.  I dont know how many were caught, I do know my arm hurts and my legs are tired from taking fish off.   Here are some pics from today.

Bottom Line,
Go out and fish and quit blaming the wife or girlfriend or freakin mother nature,

Almost caught a giant striper on skipjack hooked on the fly. That really was a monster fish! I'll bring my old bait chunker gear out next trip.

Sounds like you guys had a good day out. I am jealous for sure.

Saw the steam plant plumes when I was coming out of Macon County today. Would have rather been on the water than where I was but family comes first when it comes to these matters.

I am on the precipice of being back to fishing normality.

For the record i was the one asking about the location of skipjack, I also talk of the steam plant but i was talking about my home water at cumberland city, i didn't know of the one at gallitin, well i do now, i fished it today from 3 to 5, wow i pulled in over 50 fish, (45 skipjack, 5 striper/white bass) and the skipjack were big, 2-3 pound range, I think if i was to use a larger bait and fish it slow and close to the bottom i would catch more striper/white bass, but i was out for the fun of it, i got a 9wt rod for x-mas (striper rod mike you will be getting a call) well don't tell my wife but my high end G-loomis 9wt first fish was a skipjack lol only 5 other boats out there to, alot of thinfin shad to birds were going crazy, I plan on going back saturday or sunday, my back seat on my boat is always empty if anyone wants to go all you have to do is answer all my stupid questions
