I wish TN would do like every other state and a license would be good for one year from the time of purchase.  That makes to much sense though

I been buying Sportsmans License ever since they came out, back when even a working man could afford them.

I've been checked 2 times in my 52 short years on this earth.

First time was deep in the back country on Bradley Fk in the Smokies, the other was on the Elk, and I had to make him check them then.

I think I will take my chances, maybe the TWRA will get busy and find me ;)

I hate to be a a stick in the mud but man they are killing me with the out of state cost.
The more I fish the more I realize it isn t about the fishing.  The older I get the more I realize it is about the moments God has hand crafted just for me.

Amen brother!  All for paying my share, but the out of state fee seems like 4 or 5 shares...
I realize I don't pay income tax in TN, but then again, neither does anyone else.   ;)
The property taxes we send should count for something.

Most states where I fish set their seasons similar to TN.  Colorado's season was from April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010.  Even though I purchased my license in June, it still expires on March 31.  Washington State was similar except their season was March 1 thru Feb 28, so even though I purchased my license in Sept, it still expires today.  I don't know of any states that will give you a one year from date of purchase license, but maybe I haven't fished there yet.

North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Arkansas I know for sure are one year from the time of purchase.  Pretty much every state around TN does.  It doesn't make sense in a year round fishery there are no closed seasons here like other states.

Pretty much every state around TN does.

The only state around TN where I buy an annual non-resident license is Kentucky.  Their licenses expire on 2/28 just like Tennessee's.

I actually like having the fixed date where they expire.  It helps me remember when I need to buy a new one.  If I had to keep track of a calendar year date, I'd either have to make sure I bought the license on the same day every year, or sooner or later I'd show up at the lake without remembering that my license had expired.

I kinda agree with BD on this one. It helps everyone remember to buy them.

Sent the papers for my little one's lifetime sportsman license. She'll be three in December so at $200 that is a steal. IF only that was around when I was little look at all the money I would saved to blow on more fishing stuff.  ;D
