composition works, value range seems strong, and color is saturated.
Some of the shots remind me of those old cibachrome prints.

Very nice Mike. I would agree the saturation is very nice and there are great textural elements in the Loon pictures. You truly get the feeling of the water and the beading on the feathers is very nice.

Great feedback Brady thanks! The ducks are just me playing around trying to make a shot that was less then spectacular out of the camera. On my LED monitor which I trust is color correct they look better then on my LCD where the blues are too much. 

The Loons had min PP. I pulled some red out of the eyes for effect and did a little edge sharpening and cropping. Other then that nothing. However,,, your remark and others I got from the Pelicans on another forum made me re check my camera settings and I did find the Sat was bumped up by one and the color tone was bumped up by two... This would produce some "vivid" colors no doubt.

The sun was straight out of the camera but again there was some sat and CT built in. I've moved them both back to 0 and we'll see how much change that makes.

A little info on color calibration.

CRT's are still the king in this arena but LCD's can be tuned to work well.

Mike,

Great shots! The clarity on the loon pics is amazing.

As I'm new to all of this, I'd be interested in knowing the parameters of your shots.  ie. lens you shot them with, iso settings, aperature, shutter speed.  Monopod, tripod or handheld?

I shoot a canon 50D and those were all taken with a 400mm 5.6L at iso 100. The ducks were shot at 400 iso. Shutter Speed on the Loons was about 1/1000, the ducks were 1/1600, the sunset 1/1250. All were handheld no tripod. Tripods and monopods don't work very well in a boat.

Join the fray, it's a great hobby.
