Hello, I've been an avid reader of this forum and have decided to finally join and become a member. I am currently in the market for a boat and would love to get some advice from the folks on this board who seem to be the definitive knowledge based group that I've read in the areas I like to fish.

I fish the Caney mostly, but I've got a friend who grew up on the Clinch and plan to visit there as well. I love to throw flies, but I'm also interested in smallies and chasing Muskies. I live in Mount Juliet, so I will be fishing Priest and Old Hickory if the conditions are right.

I've narrowed my boat decision down to these two boats based on where I plan to fish. Plus, you guys just seem like a really nice and friendly group of fishermen.

Any advice or tips anyone might have on these boats would really be appreciated, and pictures of rigs would be great!

I'm torn between getting a Gheenoe Super 16 and a River Hawk B-60 Pro Caster.

On the Super, I actually like the center console deal except I'd put another pedestal seat where they have a poling/casting deck that is depicted on the Gheenoe website photo.

On the River Hawk Pro caster, I like the center live well and so I wouldn't need much changed on that build.

On both boats I am planning on putting a 4-stroke 20HP prop on, only because I am not ready for a jet and I will have the boat in bigger water sometimes chasing Musky at Dale Hollow, or even going for walleyes in Center Hill.

For the most part though, I'll be chasing fish all over the Caney, usually with one fishing partner...or in the cases I can talk them into it, my wife and daughter.

I was the test pilot for jets on these type of boats, doesn't work. Great boats, I'm on my 4th Gheenoe. I have a jet, they work on boats with lots of water contact, big jons & Arkansas river style jon boats.

Call Perry Brook, Gheenoe dealer in Lynchburg at 931-759-7707

The Gheenoe is a proven boat that is well know for quality. The riverhawk B60 is an awesome design and a nice boat as well. Me personally, I'd do a alum semi V jon...

In this area, I will second Mike's Alum semi V-hull.

What about a Shawnee boats?   I know there are some big fans about these and supreme boats.   Are these pretty good on the caney?   How do they do on larger lakes like Percy?

The Shawnee/Supreme or Arkansas style boat work great on the Caney.

The Gheenoe is a great rig.

Those boats aren't lake boats. You can do it but it isn't comfortable.

I second what others have said about the Jets...they don't work on Gheenoe/Riverhawk style boats.

I replied to your other post and will add it here too.  Look at the Gheenoe LT25.  Talk to Perry about this boat as compared to the Super 16.  Customgheenoe.com is a good resource for comparing the Super 16 and LT25.

The LT25 and Super might be able to handle a little more open water than my Gheenoe Classic, but as other have said they are not lake boats by nature.  They do make for a great shallow water/river fishing boat...and I love fishing the waters that some of the bigger boats can't get to.  The Super might leave you wishing you had a little more motor, but the LT25 with a 20 or 25HP would be hard to beat.

Get a "wet test" if you can...ride and fish the boat you think you want if you have a chance...

Fantastic advice everyone, I knew I asked the right group!

I think I'm going to add the LT25 to my research list now, I was wondering if pairing a 20HP to the Super would make me wish for more motor and I am settled on the 4-stroke 20HP.

I'll also take a look at some of the alum hulls, if anyone has good links where I can learn more about those choices and what kind of price they come in at.

So the Arkansas style boats are not good on big water?   I thought they would be big enough to handle these areas.

They can handle just about anything but if comfort is a priority then I'd lean towards something else. Our lakes get waked pretty bad from late May - Sept, so dealing with that can be a pain. Of course it's a pain in a Bass Boat too...
I fish my Supreme in Priest but I stay in the rivers mostly in it.

Heck, they can even handle the water around the Keys in wind.  ;D

Shawnee, are currently $9300 for boat and trailer, great boat but that will go along way on other styles. Every time I go to and fish the White I get the hots for one, have to come home and get my head together and be honest with myself, I'm blessed with what I have.

If you search the boat forums, I had a LT25, wouldn't work with the jet, but I do miss the boat.
