as far as I know Mercury only makes the 25 and 40 four stroke jets, make large 2 smokers. Steve is a quite man, he grins with his eyes, when he tells me about the 40, he smiles and says it will fly, get on plane quick and go as fast as the 25 did at half throttle.

Have you put yours on a GPS ?
I have not put mine on GPS, but I can tell you that it is a tank. Is basically about the same as Mike's Supreme, maybe 1 or 2 MPH faster, but not much.
I just don't care!

finally got a day where the wind wasn't white capping Tims Ford, put multiple layers of fleece, waders, windproof jacket, took rain jacket, onboard charger showed battery was topped off, took the rig to Cline Ridge on top of Tims Ford dam.

Pushed off from bank as usual, got situated, turned key and it went wry, wry, wry. Crap, GPS wouldn't boot up, loaded up and came home, took all my garb off and went out to troubleshoot the battery problem, somewhere between house and garage, power went off, wasn't my day.

When FPU got power restored, found out I got a battery with voltage but low amperage.

Warranty went out couple months ago.

What batterys you guys run ?

Doesn't seem to matter lately they all pretty much have sucked for me. If you can find one made by Johnson Controls your shot of getting a good one goes waay up. The Wally world isn't JC anymore and the new ones sux.

AC Delco gets my vote for a lead-acid battery, when I can afford them.  They will work for a long time, if you properly maintain them (ie charge after getting home and keep a float charge after topping off).  I pretty much agree with Mike on all the other brands of lead acid I have tried.

I am thinking of trying the AGM style battery next go around.

The one that died was an AGM with onboard charger

Yea I've heard to many negatives on the AGM's. At twice the price I'd rather have two mediocre batteries then chance having one POS.

FWIW Sams was selling marine batteries branded with the Energizer brand. They were made by JC.

Here is dry cell that is supposed to be great. I love the weight. In a jet a few pounds is alot.

I had great luck with the Dual Pro AGM I had in my jet.  To this day even Craig hasn't been able to kill it. ;D  Of course they are NLA these days.

David, I would have a starting battery (M/C sized AGM) and another battery for trolling motor.   ;)

I've had nothing but AGM batteries, one in Classic and LT25, both are still clicking. All 3 are Cabelas brand. Tom was just at Basspro, he ask for me, worker said unless you are out pounding water very often go with regular battery.

Glenn, where did you get your battery? Still available?

Dual Pro no longer sells batteries.  They have a business office just off I-24 in Lavergne at the industrial park.  You might look at Deka batteries also.  Batteries Plus also carries marine batteries.

I know a lot of the guys in the salt are running the Deka, I have read a lot of threads on the Maverick site and it looks to be a very good battery. I have a few Optima batteries and they have been fine for me. I think you get what you pay for in a battery, so if you buy a 50.00 battery at China-mart, you get a 50.00 POS and it will not last.
I just don't care!

Wally world used to sell a $50 battery that was as good as any. Then along comes $200 batteries (ironically made by the same company that used to make great cheap wal mart batteries, yep,  Johnson Controls makes the Optima...) and suddenly the prices shot up for all batteries. Now you can pay $80 and still get a POS. I'm going to buy my next batch from the battery guy on Broad st. in the boro.

Not sure who make the ones at Sams, they have the Energizer name on them.  I have a deep cycle I bought there and has done very well for my trolling/starting battery. I ran some 4 gauge wire from the motor up to the battery under the from casting deck, works great for me, the Merc I have rarely every take more than a bump to the switch to start.

When I bought mine from Steve he mentioned running a lawn mower size batter as a starter battery to keep the weight down.  I tried it on my and it worked great, just trying to shave off every pound I could.   A lot of the life of the battery has to do with the way you charge them also.

Can't wait to hear about how that 40 runs, glad you got it all worked out.

Jarrod, I have a Deka on my boat now for my TM and love it. Same battery since day one and it is still running strong and holds a charge really well and will run multiple days without a recharge under hard trolling.

At the point I need a replacement, I will seek out another Deka to replace my current one.
