Predator 6wt
« on: March 27, 2011, 09:30:19 AM »
At 7'10" this thing packs a punch. It's fast and capable of high line speed accurate distance casts and with the 250 grain Streamer Express Intermediate is also does very well in close. This rod is made for our tight Smallmouth Creeks and rivers and will be with me on those adventures this year. At $200 who cares if it gets beat up a little. The blank is a non painted graphite that isn't easily scratched!!.... The wraps are brown thread woven tightly and finished with flexcoat in a nice uniform level wrap with a silver deco band and white alignment dots. I LOVE the white alignment dots!! The stripping guides look like medium grade Pac Bay. The snake guides are black and they look like Tich coated guides, probably Pac Bay too. The aluminun reel seat gets the job done, holds my reels tightly, and has a built in hook keep in it.

Warranty.
I broke a CPX last year (broke it in the rod tray) and had to use Redington warranty service. They sent me a new rod within two to three weeks at a cost of $30 to me. Not bad but Sage did beat them with my Xi3 repair that was sent the same day.

My opinion. FWIW
I've recently started using these lower end rods almost exclusively and I honestly love to fish them. They aren't a Sage or Loomis or Helios, but they aren't $650 either. I'll always have a few top shelf rods but the Redington line is quickly becoming my go to. That's mainly because, a. I fish ALOT, and b. I'm hard on my equipment.

Getting some Chickens ready for some Hybrid action. This should test the 6wt a little beyond it's intended flex rating! ;D The Reel is Sage's 4200 series. Sage Reels have won my heart and soul. It's all I buy now if/when they are available.... The cork on this rod is darker because I seal all my cork with cork sealer.

Nice review Mike. I am very pleased with my Predator 10 wt.

Those white alignment dots make putting the rod together so much easier and I am pleased that for $199, you get not only a rod sock but also a rod tube (TFO, pay attention).

Bought one today.  Should arrive at my office next week.  I've paired it with the Sage Bluegill 220 grain.  I'll let you know how it works out.

Just got off the water fishing the rod mike is talking about.  A great rod in all weights for certain.  I fish the 10 for striper, 8wt around the dock lights, and the 6wt for smallies.  The rod is light in hand and surprisingly accurate with in 60'.  I have the bluegill line on mine as well and it took about a day to get use to the extra weight on the tip, but after adjusting my casting style it shoots like a rocket.  I think Mike's review is dead nuts on.  For tight quarters or having to pull big fish out of docks this is the stick to fish.

And if you do a bit of searching on the web like I did you can find a coupon code for 35% off plus free shipping.

I paid $99 for the rod, $12 for the line, and even bought a Redington hat for $4.

Love web deals.

I picked up a 6 wt recently for a really good deal. Going to get out this week and chase some fish. Love my predator 10 wt and I am sure I will love this 6 wt as well.

Looks like the perfect blue line rod for smallies, red eye and gills.
