small creek, smallmouth bass
« on: April 04, 2011, 09:31:34 PM »
I was able to get out early Monday morning ahead of this strong line of storms and probe some local creeks that had fallen into good flows over the weekend.  Found this beauty hiding in a little hole on a cut bank below the root ball of a tree growing in the bank.  This is a really small creek, and really shallow, so I was not sure what I would find, but it has always looked really fishy...

Thanks guys.

I am hoping to get out again on Sunday, but looking at our local USGS river gauges, our local water has shot up around 8 feet after the big storms yesterday.  :o  It's going to have to stay bone-dry between now and Sunday for that to be possible now...

Nice smallie, I took my son out on the Harpeth on Sunday and we fished pretty hard for 4 hours and caught zero. I was very windy and we tried everything but nothing seemed to work. I was wondering how the flooding from last year effected the Harpeth with all the contaminants.  Nice fish

Nice smallie Todd. Can't wait till things settle down in our rivers and streams

When it does settle down, it should be time for the smallies to heat up big time.  I am starting to catch them in decent numbers and decent size over the past 2 weeks or so.  Rain in the forecast late in the week, but hopefully it is very light and we can get this water to clear out of here by Sunday.  We lost 3 feet of water today, and need to lose 5 more feet to get into the zone.

Solid work Todd. How's the river flowing near your house?

When I flew over the Harpeth coming back to Nashville yesterday it still looked a little high but the color was not stained.

It's fishable but tough.  I went out early this morning and got my foot caught in a root and ended up swimming for a bit!   >:(

If we dodge significant rainfall, it should be at a really nice flow by Sunday or Monday.

Every time the rivers drop down to "the zone" we have another day of rain, but I got out very early this morning ahead of these storms and fished.  I caught a really nice 17" smallmouth in a spot I have been fishing for the past 8 weeks just knowing there has got to be a fish in there some day, so that was very rewarding!  The fish seem to turn on in the nasty weather - I guess they know they have a few days of muddy water coming their way, so they are filling up beforehand.  I hope to have a pic soon, but my fishing partner this morning took a nasty fall off the bank and ending up swimming about 25 yards, and now he can't get his phone turned back on (yeah...  likely story....  :D :D :D)

Tight lines,
