What happened to Sunscreen.
« on: August 18, 2011, 03:16:00 PM »
When did the buff replace sunscreen? I'm sorry guys but wearing a buff around here could result in losing your mancard.

Where have all the "Red Necks" gone. ???  I have a Buff and I wear it some around my neck.  I'm still not quite up to the full face bank robber look just yet.  I guess my mancard is still semi intact. :o

All joking aside, these things do work to protect us from the harmful rays of the sun.  Skin cancer is serious stuff and a lot of the newer sunscreen active ingredients are being discovered to have cancer causing effects too.  Not to mention the damage they can cause to flyline coatings from sunscreen.

What's a guy to do? :o  I might lose my mancard, but oh well.  My flyline not cracking and I'm not going under the knife. :P

A Buff is a tube scarf made of lycra.  It is really strechy and can be worn in may different ways.

Getting a spot on my ear checked next month...probably gonna have a chunk missing this fall if they excise.  Also, had a pigmented lesion start to bleed at my receeding hairline this week.
Skin cancer ain't no joke....Scares the hell out of me.

You may look like a douche with a buff, but atleast you'll be a fish catching bandit in your retirement years.
It's really just a Damn $20 teeshirt sleeve. :D

buffs are gay.

However I got to wear something on my semi-bald head. I have just enough hair that sunscreen doesn't work (even if I use half the dang bottle).

I think I will go with the aunt jemima look w/ a doo rag.

I bought one in Key West and I've only worn it here to keep bugs out of my hair on the ride home on a dark river.

I bet they cost less than a quarter to make.  I know a guy who has a clothing line he is developing, and he is selling some really nice hats for $20/each that he has made in China for 98 cents/each.

I haven't had a chance to use one yet but will one of these days. For a long while now, have always wore a bandana dipped in cool water opened up under my hat for grass cutting. It keeps me cool and some sun off.

In summer on the Caney, I use my lite felt cowboy hat. It keeps me covered and I just dip in the water then wear it dry to stay cool.

My main thing to prevent skin cancer while fishing is I fish 90% at night now. My mom almost died from Melanoma a few years back so I take no chances but I have been real stupid about in younger years. You could say I hope not to have any of it later in life while looking over my shoulder expecting it.

I've spent my whole life outdoors, construction, farm work, fishing, just being outside. A few years back i had a few spot's checked, no problems thankfully.
I tried sunscreen a couple of times, being bassackwards, it like to have fried me :o I don't run around with just my speedos on anymore or mow the fields nekkid on the tractor & cover most of my body, skin cancer is serious stuff, one of the ladies i work with lost her husband last month to it, they found it last year & it was to late, serious stuff guys.

Just have to have SPF material to get that kind of pricing.

I wore one this year while redfishing in the panhandle and loved it. Made my day on the water nice as I didn't have to reapply sunscreen all day.

I think it is a personal preference. It you are sensitive to the sun, then you should wear whatever helps you best. For those that fish the salt a lot, I think it becomes a necessity to protect you long term so that you don't get skin cancer.

After working in import/export industry for various distributors it may cost him that to make but highly doubt that is his final amount in each item or getting rich on low volume. You still have to pay duties and taxes to get it over here through customs plus shipping cost to get it here. With wearables unless you sell a whole bunch of them you try to make your money on shipping plus sales tax then hope to have enough overhead to cover your misc bills that went everything once it hit US soil until the sale.

These days China is not as cheap as they used to be. They are still low but other countries over there even cheaper labor and manufactoring cost.
