Biggest one I've
caught
on the Elk measured 19 inches, on a clouser. I have seen fish do "drive bys" at streamers that were significantly larger. I haven't put enough time in on that river though. There are definitely some browns in the 4 to 6 pound range there if someone wanted to spend some time pursuing them. I think the problem is that big browns do most of their feeding during generation (during daytime in particular), and the Elk isn't really very fishable under those conditions.

Yea, there might be something to that. Most of the big brown pics I have seen from there, have been during daylight. So I know they're not caught night fishing. I have been trying to read books and learn when I'm not learning on the river.
Some more fish porn from my Elk river browns:
Also, from an out of state trip, many of you might know where. These were not fly caught, that was before I was a fly fisherman. Man do I want to go back and wave the fly rod there!

This is the biggest brown I have been able to put my hands on; the pic doesn't do it any justice. My dad caught it last year and we guessed it to be 8 or 9 lbs. I witnessed a guy catch a big rainbow 3 years ago that was an easy 10lbs. The biggest brown I have ever seen followed my jerkbait up to the boat and turned away 4 years ago. That fish was probably close to 15lbs, he was in another league.

I caught a good size brown 3 weeks ago on the elk...biggest trout ive ever caught in my life. I didn't get a pic though. My guess would be between 18 inches. As for spotting them in the water, I have seen some fish that made my heart race, but i could never get to them!
