This weather has been awesome for early Spring fishing. I have been getting out as much as I can this week. Yesterday, Todd and I got out and fished a river neither of us had been to for a while. The fish were willing and the flow was great. Slightly elevated from the last rain but nice and clear. I love the blue/green color that middle TN holes get. We both fished crayfish patterns and the fish seemed to like. I landed this sunfish pretty quickly. I'm usually decent at sunfish species identification but this one has me stumped. It may just be a unique bluegill, but it could be something else. Any one got an id?

Next up was this nicely marked Rock Bass.

Eventually we started landing some Smallies. Todd landed a nice 13"er. And also brought this beast to hand. Measured out to be 19" on the dot. I was upstream about a hundred yards and thought I heard a yell, so I made my way around the bend and saw Todd's 4 wt. doubled over. As I got closer he asks, "Do you have a net?" Always a good question to hear, but I did not. Todd does a good job of gaining control and lipping the fish.

Another look

In the next hole I pull 3 decent 10-11" Smallies from the same spot. And another chunky little fish out of the next. This fish had a giant come out with it. I wish I had hooked the big boy. The belly on this fish looked like it could have been full of eggs. I left it in the water.

See ya later!

I got out again today and found the flows even better. Just slightly lower. I went to a different stream. I had the Frenchy invasion today. I must have caught at least 10. I only found one willing SMB. Also landed this feisty Green Sunfish. I thought it was funny that it hit a fly about its own size. Gotta love the spunk of warm water fish.

I took a stream temp today. It read 62 at the end of a long slow hole. I thought it was still a bit chiller, but that's what the thermometer said.
Well, that's my story for the last two days. I'm hoping to get out again tomorrow before the next bout of weather.
