Urban blue line
« on: May 04, 2012, 10:21:16 AM »
I thought I had a 6AM meeting this morning; I showed up to find that the meeting is scheduled for next Friday! Oh well, I'll go fishing.

Strung up a new 7'2" 5 wt I built this winter on a glass blank by McFarland.

Got into a smallie pretty quickly.  They were being very finicky in this slow, clear creek.  I ended up fishing a sz 10 streamer.

A pretty nice spotted bass:

Caught a lot of sunnies, and these guys were really active:

Finally got what I was after.  I knew this girl was in this pool last week.  Today, she was off the bed and hungry, nearly tore the rod out of my hands.  It was a touch and go affair with such a small rod - this is the first fish I've had to put on the reel in a long time.

How do you top that?  I clipped off my fly and headed to work.

Thanks for checking out my report.

I've got a vintage Scott 5pc. 5wt. PowR-Ply Fiberglass rod from the old operation in San Francisco.  It has a really sweet touch.  Oddly enough, I landed a really decent-sized Steelhead with it one time, which was hilarious....

Those are all very cool rods.  I'd like to cast that Phillipson sometime!

After reading this, I pulled mine out and dusted it off and walked down to the river with it this evening and promptly landed 3 fish out of one of my favorite little holes.  Fun stuff!  I need to get the guides re-done on mine.  They appear to have been replaced at some point in the rod's life and were obviously a DIY job and they don't look that great.  At some point, I need to get them replaced...

If you can tie a fly, you can do a good job of it yourself.
