Cold Front

Made it over to the Smokies for the first time and got there as a cold front and rain arrived.

Cool temps and rain seemed to put fish down, but a #14 beadhead squirrel nymph with split shot started to do the trick.

Wild trout are always fun!

Headed further South after a couple of days to the Tellico area and gave that a try. High sticking rubber leg stone fly nymphs caught trout all day long.

Walked back toward the truck and came across this on the trail:

A closer look for Jarrod!

Be careful out there, I have seen eight snakes this Spring while fishing.

Awesome! Nice copperhead.
Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.

But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.

She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.

She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.

Great trip report! I love tailwater fishing, but something about rock hopping in the mountains while chasing wild fish cuts to the core of fly fishing for me. So thanks for the report, it reminds me that I have to get up that way soon. (sans mr. no shoulders)
"Often, I have been exhausted on trout streams, uncomfortable, wet, cold, briar scarred, sunburned, mosquito-bitten, but never, with a fly rod in my hand, have I been in a place that was less than beautiful."
