Elk 08/01/12
« on: August 01, 2012, 05:38:44 PM »
Walked quite a way today to a favorite place, got there and a truck was pulled up to the river bank:(

Watched the two sports for a while, I had camo on :) They never knew I was around.

Walked down river a few hundred feet, walked in and started fighting their moss, river needs flushed BAD.

Put the Cicada dry on and a dropper to see if I could get a bump, all hits were on dropper.

Fish were healthy and fought like they were much larger or was it because I've been away from the Elk since May 9th :) It was a Smallmouth trip that day.

My second Brook Trout, first one was mad and got off as I was trying to document his existence. Second one was caught on a classic Brookie fly, Mickey Finn.

Another fat healthy Bow, no Browns today, was odd, usually catch mostly Browns

Noted david wearing camo in his post. Without a doubt camo is a big help with as spooky as the fish are getting.

Longsleeve camo in this heat!? You are more disciplined than I would be. I would just as soon practice my casting and maybe catch a blind fish than wear dark long sleeves right now. Nice to see some bows were caught. I haven't caught one of those there since February. All browns and brookies lately.

after my dermatologist cut a big hunk out of my back (went for another spot) that I didn't know I had, it's rare for me to wear short sleeves if I'm going to be out in the sun for long.

Even told me, he thought it was Melanoma. Talking about scaring the crap out of me, with my 1st wife dying a horrible death to breast cancer I don't take no more chances than I have to, we got way to much against us already, chemicals and such.

Yea. Good point. My dad has had the same thing and my paternal grandfather died from melanoma. So genetics are not in my favor. Maybe I should suck it up and wear long sleeves.

I wear long sleeves and long pants year round when fishing.  The Columbia PFG fishing shirts and nice synthetic pants are the ticket.  A few weeks ago I was made fun of at the beginning of a long float for my attire.  After 2 miles in the blazing sun with 4 more to go, the folks who were making fun of me (and now getting sunburned) came around and told me that I had actually made the best choice of clothing for the day (a fact that I already knew).  The great part about clothes like these is that when I get hot, I just take a swim in my shirt and pants and feel great.
