I figured with the cool nights the creeks would be running cool enough to fish, so yesterday I tried some new (for me) muskie water. This involved a rather steep 100 yard SUP drag through the woods. Going in wasn't bad, but coming out was a chore. Didn't see any muskies nor have any follows, although water clarity was surprisingly poor. Did see some cool stuff, though...
Colonial bryozoans

Freshwater jellyfish

and even a few largemouth that tried to eat muskie flies

Hot, and way too many leaves on the water for August -- every cast would foul, I'd cuss, pull the leaf off, make another cast and repeat.
I finally headed to more familiar water, but was only rewarded with one smallmouth only slightly larger than the fly.

At least it wasn't a total skunk. Had one lackadaisical follow right before dark. Maybe I should have stayed and fished through the night... but the cold beer at home won out.
Can't wait for fall.
