Slow Times on the Elk
« on: January 19, 2013, 06:09:17 PM »
Even after allowing the water release to stabilize, temps to elevated, and in general do all that is needed to ensure that the fish should be responsive... they still won't cooperate.  We've hit both Ferris Creek Bridge and the dam area over the last couple weeks with little or no result... even the local bait fisher folk are coming out empty handed.

Tried everything from wooly buggers to midges and barely a bump... very puzzling.

I spent over an hour Thursday morning, nothing felt or seen, I blamed it on the 30+ mph winds  :o

At least you can get in the river. Hope it gets better soon.

This has been an exceedingly slow winter season... normally this is when I encounter my 20+ fish days... but this year I'm lucky to get 1 or 2 fish.  The floaters say that earlier they ran into some nice fish in the deeper pools between access points... but even they have been quiet of late.

I've got lots of "out of state" folks questioning whether they are willing to invest in an $80+ permit to go wading.

Went around the same time.  Slower than usual but still caught quality fish for most of the day.  We floated from just below the dam to the bridge.  Again slower than usual but still caught fish.
