Nationwide assessment of streams and rivers

A few years back I helped do some of the fieldwork for a nationwide survey of the health of our rivers and streams. The EPA just released a draft copy of their report, and it's pretty depressing -- over half of all the sampled rivers were in "poor" shape, and just over a fifth were in "good" shape.
The full report is here:
http://water.epa.gov/type/rsl/monitoring/riverssurvey/upload/NRSA0809_Report_Final_508Compliant_130228.pdf
and the Clif Notes version here:
http://water.epa.gov/type/rsl/monitoring/riverssurvey/upload/NRSA200809_FactSheet_Report_508Compliant_130314.pdf
There's some interesting little tidbits in here.
