Elk 4/24

I fished below the dam in the rain yesterday afternoon about 1 to 5:30.  Much slower than Saturday.

My partner and I had the river to ourselves, but didn't get a bump from the bridge to the bend.  He caught 1 at the top of the riffle a couple of hundred yards above the bend, and a couple just off the point as you enter the sand bar in the bend.  His fish were on a brown wooly bugger.

All of my fish were in the bend and most came from the sand bar.  I caught about 3 fresh stockers in the still water to the left side of the sand bar on a size 20 flashback pheasant tail.  A couple of 10" rainbows on the same fly in the middle of the river off the sand bar.  Then, a couple of 12" meaty fish on a san juan worm.  Some fish were rising to midges when we got to the bend and the swallows were busy feeding on them.  That shut down around 4:00 and the fishing got tough.

Good parts about the day: we had the river to ourselves and caught some fish.  Bad parts:  cold and wet.  I was hoping the catch rate would make up for the louzy conditions, but I don't think it did.

A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work!  Glad you got to spend some time on the water, I hope to do the same real soon.
