Wow - I read some guy talking about this on another forum a few weeks ago, but I didn't know if he knew what he was talking about.
"A passion for steelhead is a hard ride. It is all consuming. God help the woman, man, or child who hopes to compete for some small claim to the passion in the angler so stricken." Bill McMillan, Foreword- A Passion for Steelhead

I don't think it'll change anything about either company. Only a fool would change them.

My BIL works for 3m (not fishing division) so I knew SA was for sale about a year ago. Poor sales vs what was forecasted.  I think with sharkskin on, they were just introducing way too many products, way too fast to recover from tooling etc. Hopefully Orvis keeps the good quality up.

The press release makes it sound as if all 3 companies will continue to operate independently and stresses the importance of each focusing on their areas of expertise...

Any of us who have been through a few mergers and acquisitions have all heard that before though...time will tell if that is a nicely worded press release or the truth.

I liked the Sharkskin at first. Then after a season of use it pretty much fell about. The texture creates thin spots that lead to cracking big time.

Time will tell, i've seen 3M buy up smaller companies with great products & shut them down. 3M does make some of the Orvis lines for them.

The best thing imo is there long sleeve cotton fish bum shirts.  If you went to the fishing tour you saw them in every video.  As for their reels for the salt not impressed, but their dog beds are amazing.

Horvis---I wish I had something to say about them.  IF someone will spot me a 3wt creek rod I might change my mind,
