Siggy 120-300 2.8
« on: November 25, 2013, 07:07:12 AM »
Never been a fan of Sigma but this lens just begged to be tried out. A 300 2.8 zoom with a reputation for being sharp. I'm still learning the personality of the lens and learning that I like the ability to zoom more then i expected. I'm mostly satisfied with this purchase so far but waiting on the 2x to see what the 600 5.6 looks like. I'd still love to play with the Canon L 300 but unitl canon prices come down from the stratosphere I'll be looking elsewhere.

Some examples.

I guess it's easier to carry than the 400, pics look sharp, #4 in direct sunlight or through a window?

I doubt it's easier to carry since it's a 2.8 I would say it looks like a small trash can and is pretty heavy.
I just don't care!

Thanks. Grumpy the 400 is a lot lighter but at 5.6 alot slower. This lens is HEAVY. I'm learning to deal with the extra weight. You don't carry this one around your neck though.  For #4 i was in some pretty thick woods so there was alot of stuff between me and the deer. That's what your seeing, stuff.

A great place to lay your bones

Lots of history in the cove. John Oliver Cabin was built in the early 1820′s by John and Lucretia Oliver, the first permanent white settlers of Cades Cove. A short trail leading from a parking area off the Cades Cove Loop Road will lead you back to the John Oliver cabin.

A veteran of the War of 1812, Oliver arrived in the cove sometime prior to 1820 via an old rugged Indian trail. Oliver had been persuaded to come to the cove by a man named Joshua Job. The Olivers remained in the cove alone their first winter there and nearly starved to death. They survived on dried pumpkin that was given to them by friendly Cherokees in the vicinity.

John Oliver would later legally purchase the land where the cabin stands in 1826 and the cabin would remain in the Oliver family until the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was established in 1934.

Hot on their trail. I followed this buck from a safe distance for over a mile before I realized we were tracking Doe's.

We've all been there buddy.

Outstanding shots. The ice out there today ought to be pretty interesting... for both photos AND walking!

With this weather warning I decided it'd be in my best interest to not get stranded up here and miss thanksgiving.  I'm on the way back now. Just east of crab orchard the trees were already covered in ice. Just before crossville I40 stopped. I'm at Cracker Barrel now waiting it out. Things could be worse. ;D

Might head back this fri if anyone is interested gimme a shout.

It should move out soon Mike and you should be good to go. Temps are still above freezing here, for now.
