1st gripe with the SL1

And it's pretty minor. My tripod quick-release plate covers part of the battery/card compartment, so it can't be opened without removing the plate. Manfrotto doesn't appear to make a compatible smaller QR plate. Granted, removing it takes all of about three seconds and doesn't require any tools, but still...

Man, is this a step up from that old XTi!

I switched to Arca Swiss style plates and heads and I'll never go back to anything else. I'd suggest a camera specific L plate, and a Really Right Stuff Ballhead. The BH25 is a small but highly functional BH. A little pricey but the quality is top shelf. The BH 25or any of the RRS ball heads will be around and working long after I'm to old to use it.

Can't say enough good things about this company.
