$60 well spent

I've tested the limits of the HogIsland.  Sliding up shoals, zig-zagging up ledges, even porpoising over a  low water spill dam. A couple of shallow ledges at top speed made my jet foot crack off small chunks and begin to hinge and pry the front plate.

With a quick call to the local machine shop, they got me fixed up.

The welder quoted me $45 when I got there.  I still feel I underpaid him.
On the way out he said they may be able to machine and mill me one out of UHMW plastic.  I hope it can happen, because NOONE I've found I'm the country makes these for smaller outboards.

We'll see.

ask about the uhmw foot on riversmallies.com

I know in the past their has been two different guys making plastic foots (or is it feet) that were discussed on that board.  Surely one of them would make for smaller jets.  Seems like one in PA and one in AR but I could be wrong.

Travis you knocked the shit out of that foot. :o. Did it knock you down on impact?
Check out the Jet Doctor over in MO.  They sell UHM jet feet on their website. ;)

Travis give Brent at Rock Proof Jets a call 717-957-3282. 

I just got off the phone with them and they offer a UHMW shoe/foot for smaller motors even though they don't list them.

Thanks for the tip, Glenn.  I had spoken with several jet-experts, and none if the leads gave me an answer about a smaller UHMW foot.  The company that used to make them stopped because a sheet of that stuff costs about $15k.  I hope Rockproof makes one that will fit.

I've heard it said, in these rocky ledge filled rivers, if you don't destroy a few lower units, you're not "really" jet boating.  I hope the UHMW will be the ticket.
