General Discussion / tarpon have arrived
« Last post by icthus on April 27, 2023, 01:15:03 PM »
Tarpon showed up early this year.  Have talked to a couple of guys that have seen them thick in the pass, and starting to dazy chain along the beaches.  Boat should be done next week, and the wind and rain should push through.  Looking forward to site casting these fish.  One of my favorite things to do.

Peace out Pals....

The beach is stacked with big snook.  They are super spooky though, tough to get to eat but fun when you do.

Cheers to the weekend Pals,

They sure were the good ole days! I miss the times like those. The excitement and drive we had was contagious. I think I'm getting moss growing on me. Maybe been in one place too long. I'm felling the need for change.

A pal once said...when things get tough keep going.  If you dont they will be hard the next time too.  Break a Simm Sage rod, pull out another one.  Smoke a Musky drive home in silence.

the good old days,
Pal

Things are coming alive here as well. Haven't been as much as usual though. I don't know what's wrong with me. Tough year.

There are many great things about living in Florida.  One of the best things for me is the different kinds of fish to target depending on the season.  With Spring coming and the temps rising, that means the snook will be moving to the beaches.  If you have never fished the spawning snook cruising in the shallows its worth a shot.  Also, Tarpon are on the move from the Keys.  They say new moon in June is when the bite gets hot, but people are now hooking up on them down by the skyway.  There are schools of reds still cruising around as well.

Hope all is well with Pals.

Here in the 727-things are thriving...

Went out and waded a flat close to the house during lunch today.  I walked half of it and no luck, I got onto some white sand and I could see a school of reds that were just hanging out.  Made many cast, had a handful of them swim to my bait and turn just before eating it.  I changed colors sizes and nothing.  Waded back to my car and saw a group of mullet swimming around.  Made a couple cast and got a thump.  I kept looking, and sure enough another group of reds were mixed in.  Saw one on the outside of the group bounced it in front of him a couple times and he hammered it.  Nice to finally catch a slot red, even nicer to be having redfish on the half shell for Friday dinner.

Hope all the pals are well,
Pal

Went out Thursday and it was awful. Saw three tailing reds and 3 snook.  The red tide was pretty bad the last couple of month.  Funny how 700,000 gallons of crap dumped into the ocean and 4 days later you have red tide.  We need to treat our waters better.

Here’s to being home and it blowing 30 knots,,,,,
