TFO's are sweet rods.  I just picked up 3 more.  TiCr X's in 5,6, and 8wts.

How do you like that 6  in the "x" factor? I brought one home this week and have only tried it out once. It has been lawn casted several times though.

What would be a good floating bass taper line for the 6wt in the "X" series?

I have a series one 9'5 wt. It is a good rod with a smooth action. It will throw a double nymph rig with 2-3 BB shot and a big ole 'thingamabobber' indicator, no problem. Its a good all around rod and casts much better than a more expensive model that i had previously.

I also have an orvis 8.5' 5wt streamline and it casts like crap compared to the tfo. The orvis feels really weak and doesn't load well past about 40 feet, also it has a lot of extra tip wobble at the end of the cast.

tons of people bitch about them being made in korea. Me, i could care less. With my income it is hard to justify a $700 fly rod and TFO has plenty of affordable options in their lineup. The last rod i bought was a St Croix but i will be getting a couple of more tfo's in the future. That is unless i get a job at the fly shop, then maybe i'll be getting a sage or a scott.

I have a 5wt finess, 7wt x, and a 9wtx and would not trade.  I have casted a 7wt sage Zaxis and it is smooth, but not $500 smooth compared to a 7wt X.  I am looking at a 12wt for my next trip to Clearwater to see the folks and I have heard rumors of Poon starting to show a little south of the Skyway.

The Orvis rep was at a local flyshop around town boasting on how great he Helios 10wt was.  "Put this in your hands, be careful you might sell the rest of your rods for this one. ("i was thinking my house included").  Anyways, I casted the line and then some and looked at me boastfuly and said, "what did I tell you."  I smiled and said it was a nice rod, but I took me 4 false cast to get 105' of line out and it takes me 4 to get 105' line out with a TFO X.  "Honestly, its a pretty rod but I'll take the TFO X any day of the week over the helios, plus I cant afford it."  IMO big rods need to be fast, there is not a lot of feel once you get past an 8wt, but that is only my opinion.

on a side note the Orvis rep has yet to mail me my cap he promised.  However TFO did send me my 7wt tip back in 5 days.   :)

I'm sorry, Realtyman, I just saw your post.   I like the 6wt a lot, it casts great with the new sharkskin lines.  I have one bass taper left and it's a Rio Clouser line.  For a 5wt.  You shouldn't have any trouble loading it with the Clouser line.  SA also makes a good bass taper, I hear.

You can always just come over here and do some test fishing with me!  ;)

I would like to give TFO a little karma here. I sent them a rod( that I broke) on Friday , and I recieved it on my porch today. I feel like that is pretty good service. ;)

Heck, you guys are making me think I need to complain about it taking 6 days to get mine back :o

I have had to deal with Winston, Orvis (more than once), Sage, TFO, Scott, and St Croix on fly rods for repair over the years and TFO has their act together on service much better than anyone else in the business.  Winston was second, then Orvis then Sage, then St. Croix,  and Scott is by far the slowest that I have had to deal with.    All of them were pretty easy transactions but TFO still shines the brightest of them all.

The key to get any rod repair done quickly and back in your hands is to tell them (Orvis, Sage, Winston or whoever) that while they are fixing or replacing said rod.....your clients are having to fish with one of their competitors rods.

Usually a brand new stick will be at your door step within a week.
