AlaRoadMan,
Here is some info to get you started concerning trout fishing:
There are two access points for wading and launching a boat:
1) On Hwy 50 about half way betweeen Lynchburg and Winchester. (Under the bridge)
2) At Farris Creek Bridge about 9 river miles down stream from #1. (On Farris Creek Road between Lois and Lexie Crossroads)
Check the generation schedule at
http://lakeinfo.tva.gov/htbin/lakeinfo?site=TFH&DataType=All&submit=View+infoYou can wade as long as the discharge is 500 cubic feet per sec or less.
Normal discharge for June is 100 cfs. You can float, but you will have some shallow gravel bars.
Usually the trout are not too fussy about what flies you use. All of the typical tailwater flies work: Wooly Buggers, Scuds, Nymphs, San Juan Worms, Soft Hackles, Midges and occasionally small dry flies.
You can get more info at Tim's Flies and Lies Outfitters in Lynchburg at:

Good Luck

p.s. Below Farris Creek I am sure that you can fish for other species and ina boat I believe that you can float all the way back to Northern Alabama.
