Elk River porta johns
« on: February 25, 2009, 09:56:20 PM »
How's that for a title for a post? I figured it would get everybody's attention! I just read on the LRO board that somebody burned the porta john that MTFF had placed at Farris Creek and that the one they put at the dam is now gone. This is very disappointing. People are idiots!

Yes, people are idiots. Sad to hear that people can't enjoy a nice thing.

I don't disagree with that at all but I think, moreover, the point is people destroying property that doesn't belong to them when others have spent hard earned money to do something that they feel is nice.

They sure are nice though when your female anglers need them. A lot of my lady clients will fish in"pain" as opposed to squat in the woods, as they see it as being rude or something. I don't understand it but I'm not a lady either.

I've got a few friends here and there on most rivers who will accommodate ladies in need. But it s a shame that people can't have anything because degenerates feel the need to vandalize.

For those who think it is a stupid idea to have porta potties, and prefer to pee in the woods; well OK!! The porta-potties were placed on the Elk to enhance he use of the river by all outdoors persons.  It took a lot of effort to acquire the funding, and the COE approval for installing the porta potties.

The initial response, when they were installed was very positive! And the first time that the porta potty at Farris Creek bridge was destroyed, we received several responses from users who wanted MTFF and REI to try again.  Therefor MTFF spent considerable effort to convince the vendor to place another porta potty at Farris Creek bridge.

I doubt that MTFF will be petitioning for its (porta potty) replacement any time soon.  It is a shame that nudniks feel the need to destroy property that does not belong to them.  The original intent was to help promote responsible stewardship of the river and its riparian areas.  So much for that!  My $0.02.

Thanks Rocky for understanding the ladies viewpoint! I don't think I am too good to take a wizz in the woods, I have done it plenty of times, but it sure is nice not to HAVE to do it.

I ve dropped some heat in the Dam porta john before so here is my 2 cents I think for us that they are very helpful for when you have to go to the bathroom in the more populated  areas esp since there are normally a lot of young kids running around.
The more I fish the more I realize it isn t about the fishing.  The older I get the more I realize it is about the moments God has hand crafted just for me.

Rach-Sorry the popped your privy.  It just irritates me to no end, things like that and theft and just a lack of common decency for others.

Maybe so,  but can she fish?

  :o

Yesterday, I was at the bottom. I was at the bottom of a valley, in the river. Then my eyes hiked up the mountains to the snow capped peaks. I thought, "When I am at this lowest place I can be, standing in a river, everything is looking up."

Information like that is useless when they neglect to include Ms. Prince's phone number.  Does anybody have a Winchester, TN phone directory handy?
